Understanding Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Spring and summer are year’s most wonderful months. These are the months where you can spend time in the sun and enjoy the nature. However, the sun can also take a toll on your skin. The rays of the sun ages the skin.

As we age, the skin becomes drier and thinner. This leads to the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Majority of people don't know how to take care of the skin. This is the reason why skin care education in NYC is trending. Taking good care of the skin slows down the process of aging. There is a difference between fine lines and wrinkles and it is up to us to know and understand it.

Fine line vs Wrinkles

Fine lines
Fine lines are the first stage of wrinkle formation. Fine line happens in the areas of the face where the skin regularly contracts and expands such as mouth, eyes, and forehead.  These are also the most expressive areas. The formation of fine lines does not suggest that the aging process has begun. They can also be created due to the lack of moisture in the skin or on the face. Using right cosmetic creams can reduce the appearance of fine lines until nature takes its course.

Wrinkles
Wrinkles are deeper and are the end result of the fine lines. They are more permanent than fine lines and need cosmetic procedures to be removed. As the aging happens, the skin loses its elasticity and starts the sagging. The sagging and droopy skin is when the fine lines turn into wrinkles. One of the most common procedures to remove the wrinkles from eyelids is Blepharoplasty.

Causes behind fine lines and wrinkles
The factors such as aging, sun exposure, genetics, diet, current lifestyle and things such as skin damage contribute to the fine lines and wrinkles. Nonetheless, the collagen production and elasticity plays a huge role in the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.
Collagen is the natural protein present in the skin. It is collagen that lets the skin snap back to its tight self. However, as we age, the production of collagen reduces. Along with the other causes of fine lines and wrinkles, the skin loses its ability to bounce back in its original shape and droops.
